Condizione: Good. - An 8-3/4 inch high by 5-3/4 inch wide "Philharmonische Konzerte" [Probably a concert by the Vienna Philharmonic] program cover. The buff colored cover is illustrated with a woodcut by Stadler depicting 5 torch-topped columns against a black background. Printed at the bottom of this program cover for the 1920/…21 season is the following: "Programmbuch / Begrundet von Dr. Robert Hirschfeld / Einfuhrungen von Prof. Dr. Max Graf / Preis 6 Kronen". Boldly signed "F. Weingartner" in pencil by the composer/conductor along the top. The cover is additionally annotated in pencil by a concert-goer below the image. The annotation, as translated from the German, indicates that this April 20, 1921 concert included Beethoven's Pastoral and Wagner's Tannhauser Prelude. Folded horizontally with short tears to the left edge and creases to the corners. This fragile program cover printed on highly acidic paper is darkened, but has since been professionally de-acidified. The Austrian conductor, composer and pianist Paul Felix Weingartner (1863-1942) studied with Wilhelm Mayer [aka W.A. Remy]. Going to Leipzig to study philosophy, he soon devoted himself to music and entered the Conservatory. He was one of Franz Liszt's last students. In 1884, Weingartner became director of the Konigsberg Opera and subsequently was Kappelmeister in Danzig, Hamburg, Manheim and Berlin. He succeeded Gustav Mahler as director of the Vienna Hofoper. The first conductor to record all of Beethoven's symphonies, Weingartner also conducted the premiere of Bizet's Symphony in C. Throughout his career he composed several works, including operas, concertos, orchestral works and 7 symphonies. As an author, he wrote on the subject of music and, influenced by Eastern mysticism and the occult, he published the poetical drama "Golgotha".

Vintage portrait photograph in zinc etching process, photograph 254 x 180 mm, rolled on black handmade paper support 462 x 323 mm. Matted and framed. Unique and rare portrait of Gustav Mahler as a concert conductor in New York: a vintage studio photograph from the atélier of A. Dupont, preserved in its large black handmade-paper… support. - The bust portrait shows Mahler in profile with his head turned to the right, reducing the composition to a concentrated conductor's likeness of striking severity. It was created by the New York studio founded by Aimé Dupont, long-serving photographer to the Metropolitan Opera, continued after his illness and death by Etta Dupont, later joined by Albert Dupont. Executed during Mahler's American years, the portrait belongs to the brief but decisive New York period in which he moved between the Metropolitan Opera and the symphonic life of the city. As an image made in that setting, it preserves the public persona of Mahler at the moment when his authority as a conductor was reaching its final international culmination.

ORIGINAL FOTOPORTRÄT (Postkartenformat, auf Karton, ges. H 19,6 x B 13,5 cm, Karton mit leichten Gebrauchsspuren), in Tinte von Wilhelm Furtwängler eigenhändig signiert. Rechts unter dem Foto mit Bleistift eigenhändig signiert : TRUDE FLEISCHMANN, WIEN (TRUDE FLEISCHMANN, 1895-1990, österreichisch-amerikanische Fotografin . Anfa…ng 1920 eröffnete sie ein eigenes Atelier in der Nähe des Wiener Rathauses und wurde zu einer der gefragtesten Porträtfotografinnen Wiens. In ihrem Atelier machte sie Aufnahmen von zahlreichen bekannten Persönlichkeiten aus Gesellschaft, Kunst und Kultur. 1938 emigriert, eröffnete sie 1940 ein Fotostudio in Manhattan, New York. Man geht davon aus, dass viele Aufnahmen, bis auf 41 Platten-Negative, durch die Umstände der Flucht und die vollständige Zerstörung ihres Ateliers im Zweiten Weltkrieg verloren gingen. Trotzdem sind ihre verbliebenen Aufnahmen in renommierten Sammlungen untergekommen, darunter die des MoMA . des Metropolitan Museum of Art , der New York Public Library , des Leo Baeck Institutes und des Getty Museums in L.A. In Österreich verfügen das Wien Museum Karlsplatz, das Theatermuseum und die Sammlung Fotografis der Bank Austria über Fotografien Fleischmanns aus der Zeit bis 1938. (WIKI) ).

Comprehensive correspondence with the Stuttgart (later Dusseldorf) concertmaster Reinhold Rohlfs-Zoll, who discusses private requests as well as conducting requests, or illuminates Krauss' role as artistic director of various theaters. In his letter from March 19…22, Krauss reports enthusiastically that he conducted Wagner's "Rheingold" and "Die Walküre", and Strauss's "Rosenkavalier" so successfully at the Vienna State Opera that he was offered y contract for Austro-Hungarian Kronen 5,000,000.00 per year and an official lodgings in the Hofburg. In June 1924 he reports from a serious conversation with Richard Strauss, and nearly 20 years later he gives an account of the premiere of Strauss's last opera "Capriccio" for which Krauss has co-written the libretto. - Accompanied by 9 portraits and portrait postcards (7 undescribed, and 2 inscribed).

Er zählte dort gemeinsam mit Friedrich Löhr, Hans Rott und Hugo Wolf zum engen Freundeskreis Gustav Mahlers. Seit 1898 wirkte Krzyzanowski als Erster Kapellmeister der Weimarer Hofkapelle.
