Neuware - 'Through the Heart of Afghanistan' is a compelling firsthand account of a scientific and exploratory journey across the rugged landscapes of Central Asia in the early 20th century. Written by the noted geologist Emil Trinkler and translated by B. K. Featherstone, the work documents a trek from the Russian frontier through the Hindu Kush and into the heart of the Afghan kingdom. Trinkler provides a detailed look at the geographical challenges, diverse cultures, and political climate of a region that remained largely closed to Westerners during the 1920s.The narrative balances scientific observation with the thrill of adventure, offering readers vivid insights into the geology, archaeology, and ethnography of Afghanistan. From the bustling bazaars of Kabul to the desolate mountain passes, the author captures the spirit of a nation at a historical crossroads. Trinkler's observations on the customs of the various tribes and the modernization efforts of the period make this an invaluable resource for those interested in Central Asian history and colonial-era exploration.
