The book has the signature of a Henry Grainger, which is dated 1909 and the book may have been rebound by him as six of the large folding plates have been laid-down on marbled paper which is the same as the endpapers. The large plates show signs of creasing… and foxing and have seen a lot of use. They have some repaired tears and are heavily foxed in places. Some thumbing and finger marking throughout. The book has been rebound with new red paper corners and similar spine. The publishers cloth covers have been re-used. The spine is heavily split and chipped and the corners and edges are heavily rubbed. Cloth sided marked and rubbed. The book also has extra plates which have been glued in on blank pages. Still an extremely interesting and rare book. Illustrated With Twenty six large plates (some folding) and seventeen woodcuts. (illustratore).
