In German, there have so far only been very free met…rical translations without an accompanying Greek text. This has been recreated for this edition on the basis of the latest research into the tradition; the translation endeavours to make the special character of this imperial contribution to the Aesopian genre recognisable in German as well. The introduction and the explanatory notes are based on the latest findings of modern literary scholarship in that, in contrast to older studies, they not only deal with the source problem but also take into account the narrative structure, intertextuality and explicit and implicit poetics and endeavour to carefully develop references to the social context.; Babrios (2. Jh. n. Chr.), Verfasser von Fabeln in Hinkjamben, wurde bisher von der altertumswissenschaftlichen Forschung gänzlich vernachlässigt - sein subtiles Spiel mit der Gattung, die er stellenweise regelrecht dekonstruiert, und seine enorme Erzählkunst wusste man nicht zu würdigen. In deutscher Sprache gab es bisher nur sehr freie metrische Übersetzungen ohne beigegebenen griechischen Text. Dieser ist auf der Grundlage jüngster Untersuchungen zur Überlieferung für diese Ausgabe neu erstellt worden; die Übersetzung bemüht sich, auch im Deutschen den besonderen Charakter dieses kaiserzeitlichen Beitrags zum äsopischen Genre erkennbar zu machen. Die Einführung sowie die Erläuterungen basieren auf den neuesten Erkenntnissen der modernen Literaturwissenschaft, indem sie im Gegensatz zu älteren Untersuchungen nicht nur das Quellenproblem behandeln, sondern auch die narrative Struktur, Intertextualität sowie explizite und implizite Poetik berücksichtigen und behutsam Bezüge zum sozialen Kontext zu erschließen versuchen.
