Es wird eingeleitet durch eine lateinische Vorrede «An den geneigten Leser» (S.3-6) und die entsprechende deutsche Übersetzung (S. 7?12), die, der Weitschweifigkeit des sprachlichen Aus- , drucks folgend, wesentlich länger ausfiel. Sie beginnt mit dem programmatischen Satz: «Der VIII Barth ist die warhaffte Zierde eines Mannes, und eines von denen ansehnlichsten Leibes-Gütern.» Wichtig ist die am Ende des Textes gegebene Datierung: Dresden 1713. Darauf folgt eine historische Abhandlung über den Bart (S. 13-32), begründet durch das Argument: «Deus et natura Nihil faciunt frustra, Gott und die Natur schaffen und würcken nichts vergebens.» Der sich anschließende Teil (S.33-53) ist ein Streitgespräch zwischen einem Bartgegner (Permoser!) und einem Befürworter (Balthasar). Der Anhang (S.54-96), durch ein eigenes Titelblatt mit Impressum herausgehoben, bringt verschiedene Texte zur Barttracht, medizinische Überlegungen und allerhand Kuriosa. Als Verleger erscheint wieder M.Barbatium Schönbart, im Gegensatz zum Haupttitelblatt nun mit th; als Druckort wird Haarburg genannt, eine weitere Anspielung auf das Bart- und Haarthema. Als dritte Datierung finden wir jetzt 171523 Ganz so ernsthaft wie zu Beginn geht es nun nicht weiter, dem Charakter des Barock entsprechend stehen Tiefsinn und Spaß nebeneinander: «Dann wann die Männer viel fürtrefflicher seyn, als die Weiber, so hat die Natur sie mit sonderbaren Männlichen Ornamentis und Zierden versehen, und ihnen nicht allein eine grössere und ansehnlichere Gestalt, sondern auch Bärthe bescheret, wie zusehen ist in den Hahnen, Stieren und andern Thieren.» (S.84) «Daher weil die Weiber gar zu weich und feucht von Natur am Leibe, werden sie weder bärthig, noch so rauch als die Männer.» gutes Exemplar, ordentlich * Verlag: [Leipzig] : Edition Leipzig * Bindung: gebundene Ausgabe.
