Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book comprehensively explores the principles of marine propulsion. It delves into the workings of paddle wheels, a technology predominant before the advent of screw propellers, which are given considerable attention. This overview of screw propellers is grounded in the theories of esteemed scientists of the era, such as Rankine and Greenhill, and delves into factors affecting their efficiency. The author also presents contrasting views on the theory of the screw, including that of Professor FitzGerald. The book further discusses the impact of various factors on propeller efficiency, including suddenness of change from velocity of feed to velocity of discharge, transverse motion imparted to the water, and waste of energy of the feed water. Featuring detailed descriptions, diagrams, and formulas, this book provides a comprehensive understanding of the principles governing marine propulsion systems. It is an invaluable resource for both students and professionals seeking to enhance their knowledge in this field. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
