Some scuffing, heavy wear and grubbiness to the bindings, some fraying to cloth, some cracking and loss to the spines. The pages are tanned and have some foxing and grubbiness. The internal hinges are cracked in places in all volumes.

3 vols in 9 divisions. Fronts, additional engraved titles, plates, illus. Sl. nick to following f.e.p. division I, otherwise a lovely clean set. Orig. dark green cloth, bevelled boards, blocked in gilt & blind; very sl. rubbing to extremities. a FINE bright set as issued. The advertisements on the leading endpapers of division I state that this work was 'to be issued in nine divisions at 7s. 6d. each, illustrated by Frith, Kenny Meadows, Nicholson, Hind, &c. Two premium plates will be presented to every subscriber for the entire work.' A notice in the final division states that 'the premium plates for the work are now ready for delivery. Subscribers who have completed the Book can obtain them by sending both tickets.' Sadly both tickets and plates are not present here. Also issued in five divisions; we can find no other copies in nine.
