The conference program consists of an invited talk by Hannes Werthner, University of Trento, Italy, as well as the technical sessions. The regular sessions cover topics from XML Transformations and Web Development to User Behavior and Case Studies. The workshop has attracted more than 80 papers and each paper has been reviewed by at least 3 program committee members for its merit. The program committee have selected 31 papers for presentation. We would like to express our thanks to the people who helped put together the technical program: the program committee members and external reviewers for their timely and rigorous reviews of the papers, the DEXA organizing committee for their help in administrative work and support, and special thanks to Gabriela Wagner for always responding promptly.…

Diese erlaubt es, Problemstellungen, die wegen ihrer Komplexität oder aus anderen Gründen einer analytischen Behandlung nicht zugänglich sind, zu bearbeiten. Damit ist die SimulaUon oft die einzige Möglichkeit bestimmte Probleme zu lösen. Ausserdem zeichnet sich die Simulation durch die Einfachheit ihrer Anwendung aus. Dies hat allerdings oft zur Folge, dass man sich ihrer manchmal auch nur bedient, weil man generell analytische Verfahren scheut oder speziell nume rische Probleme umgehen will. Erfolgreiche Simulationsuntersuchungen stützen sich in der Regel auf drei Pfeilern ab: Modellbildung, statistische Grund lagen, Modellimplementation auf dem Computer. Allzuoft sieht man leider, dass nicht allen drei Gebieten die gleiche Auf merksamkeit geschenkt wird. So werden häufig die stat.isti schen Anforderungen bei der Auslegung der Experimente ver nachlässigt. Erst eine ausgewogene Modellbildung, gefolgt von einer geeigneten Implementation auf dem Computer, und eine Experimentplanung unter Beachtung der statistischen-Erfor dernisse, können schliesslich zu aussagekräftigen Resultaten führen. Der vorliegende Hochschultext - ursprünglich Kursunterlage zu einern Kurs über Simulationstechnik der Schweizerischen Vereinigung für Operations Research (SVOR) - trägt diesem Zusammenwirken Rechnung.
