Pre-modern mathematical and judicial texts exhibit distinctive formal features which can be identified as early as in the texts from Mesopotamia and Egypt and which enable conclusions to be drawn about the structure of their content. Using examples from Hittite, Greek, and Roman legal texts… and mathematical and legal texts from Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt, the individual contributions analyze how normativity (linguistic features, formulas, specific design of writing material) was used to promote putative permanent validity and authority. They also prompt us to reflect about the terms "coherence" and "abstraction" and enable us to gain insights into the validity and acceptance of norms in pre-modern cultures and the procedures through which they were enforced. Premodern mathematical and legal texts have distinctive formal features that are already recognizable in the texts from Mesopotamia and Egypt and allow conclusions to be drawn about their content structure. Using examples from Hittite, Greek and Roman legal texts as well as mathematical and legal texts from Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt, the individual contributions examine how the normativity of the texts (linguistic features, formulas, specific design of the writing material) to promote a supposedly permanent validity and authority was established. The contributions also stimulate reflection on the terms "coherence" and "abstraction" and make it possible to gain knowledge about the validity and acceptance of norms in premodern cultures and the processes. (Bogazköy-Hattusa : Ergebnisse der Ausgrabungen des deutschen Orient-Gesellschaft ; 23). - Das Siegelmaterial ist im Katalog chronologisch nach Großkönigen und -königinnen geordnet und verzeichnet 191 Siegelstöcke…, denen 2095 königliche Siegelabdrücke zugeordnet werden, verteilt auf 2062 Tonbullen und -verschlüsse. Das Material wird unter mehreren Gesichtspunkten untersucht. Erstens soll die Entwicklung innerhalb der Königssiegel bezüglich Größe und Gestaltung, Dekor und Ikonographie aufgezeigt werden. Die daraus gewonnenen Erkenntnisse sind für unser Verständnis der hethitischen Königsideologie von Bedeutung und dienen als wichtige Ergänzung zu den schriftlichen Quellen. Der zweite Schwerpunkt liegt in der Bearbeitung und Auswertung der Inschriften. In der Untersuchung zur Siegelpraxis wird drittens auf die Träger der Siegelabdrücke eingegangen werden. Viertens wird auf den Fundkontext innerhalb der Kellerräume des Westbaus eingegangen. Fünftens liefern die Ergebnisse einer chemischen Analyse der Tonzusammensetzung (XRF-Analyse) bei ausgewählten Bullen Aufschlüsse zur Deutung des Fundkomplexes. Das Material setzt sich zusammen aus Abdrücken von Siegeln einzelner Könige und Königinnen sowie von Gemeinschaftssiegeln mehrerer Herrscherpaare und von sog. Labarna-Siegeln. Im Nisantepe-Corpus sind lückenlos sämtliche Großkönige der Großreichszeit sowie einige wenige Könige und Königinnen vor Suppiluliuma I. vertreten. Ausgeklammert werden in diesem Band die auf den Landschenkungsurkunden des 15. Jhs. abgedrückten Königssiegel, die separat erscheinen sollen. Mit dem ältesten Siegel der anonymen Tawananna, das wohl ins 15. Jh. zu datieren ist, und dem jüngsten Siegel des Suppiluliuma II um 1200 v.Chr. beträgt die Zeitspanne des Materials ca. 250 Jahre. Der Schwerpunkt des Archivs liegt jedoch in der Großreichszeit (14.-13. Jh.). Von den 148 unterschiedlichen Siegelstöcken der Könige und Königinnen entfallen alleine 141 auf Herrscher ab der Zeit Suppiluliumas I. Die große Anzahl von 141 Siegeln, die sich auf zehn Könige und fünf Königinnen der Großreichszeit verteilen, lässt erkennen, dass die einzelnen Herrscher und Herrscherinnen zahlreiche Siegel besaßen.
