Nach seiner Rückkehr nach Deutschland im Jahr 1955 war Bayerthal freier Schriftsteller und Kunstkritiker und organisierte auch weiterhin Kunstausstellungen. Ab 1962 lebte er in Paris. 1964 erschien "Der nackte Mensch" in der Kunst im Dumont-Verlag.
