Tipped-in colour frontispiece of Shevchenko, attributed to Soviet artist, Yury Iliich Repin (1877-1954). A most remarkable, and unique edition of Shevchenko's magnum opus, Kobzar, specially commissioned by the Soviet Ukrainian State to coincide with the 150th anniversary of Shevchenko's birth. Text printed in Ukrainian, in double columns adorned with black-and-terracotta head-and-tail pieces throughout. Accompanied with various black-and-white, in-text, line drawings, and twenty-four stunning, full-page, colour lithographs as commissioned from various contemporary Soviet artists including contributions from such noted Soviet illustrators as, Vasily Kasiyan, A.D.
