Including frontispieces and engraved title pages. Uniform contemporary dark morroco with gilt titles and gilt decorations. All edges gilt. Yellow end paper…s. Very good condition. Binding rubbed and bumped. Age darkened. Edges and end papers age darkened. Ex Libris sticker on front paste down of both volumes. Stamp of a previous owner on both title pages and on rear free end paper of volume one. Some foxing. Some tissue guards with a colour tinge. Otherwise a clean attractive copy in sturdy attractive bindings. The missing Plate in Volume 1 is 'Berwick Lighthouse from the Pier' (opposite page 28).

First Edition. 27 x 21 cm. Vol.1: (4), 188 pages, engraved title plus 57 Plates (see comments!) / Vol.2: (2), 152 pages, engraved title plus 48 Plates, plus a folding map of Switzerland in the back. Contemporary half morroco over marbled boards. Marbled end papers and edges. Gilt titles and decorations on spine. Good condition.…Binding rubbed and bumped. Edges age darkened. Rear free end paper of Vol.1 and front free end paper of Vol.2 missing. Some tissue guards missing. Names of previous owners neatly inscribed in ink. Internally with some browning, foxing and large visible damp stains on most pages, incl. Plates. (see images). Illustrations: The number of Plates in the book is the same as stated under 'Directions for the Binder', however, there are two deviations from the list. The Plate 'The Lake, from opposite Diodati' (opposite page 14) is missing. One Plate belonging to Volume 2 is inserted opposite page 52 in Volume 1. Total count is as follows: 2 engraved title pages, 105 Plates (of 106) plus folding Map of Switzerland.

H. Bartlett, Esq." Die englischen Titelblätter geben das Erscheinungsjahr 1839 an. Reich ornamentierter Leder-Rücken mit Titel-Golddruck; geprägter bzw. gemusterter Deckelbezug im biedermeierlichen Stil. Erhaltung: Alle 106 Stahlstiche sind vollzählig. Die meisten Tafeln mit Braunflecken, aber überwiegend an den unbedruckten Rändern. Durchgehend auch Fingerflecken an den Ecken rechts-unten. Die Ausfaltkarte mit einem Einriss. (complete). Bound in 2 uniform black half russian leather, Red title label on raised spine, All edges gilt, vanilla coloured… endpapers. Bound by A. van Rossum (Binder for the royal Dutch court), (with his printed label). Binding with some slight wear at the extremities, interior very fine with only very sparse light foxing spots on some of the margins of a few plates. Still a very attractive copy. Reacting to the declining interest for books and bookcollecting, resulting in a fall of the prices we offer this nice book at half the former price.
