Condizione: Neu. Helmuth Plessners kritisch-phänomenologische Grundlegung einer hermeneutischen Naturphilosophie in "Die Stufen des Organischen und der Mensch". Die Arbeit zeigt mit Plessner, dass Naturphilosophie notwendig ist. Denn das Phänomen des Lebens ist mit bloß empirischen Mitteln nicht angemessen zu erfassen. Hier kommen - zumindest dann, wenn der Erfahrungsbereich nicht unzulässig verkürzt werden soll - andere, von Phänomenologen und Hermeneutikern erarbeitete Verfahren mit ins Spiel. Deren Verhältnis zum naturwissenschaftlichen Vorgehen ist zu klären, was nur auf der Ebene einer Naturphilosophie möglich ist. Dabei zeigt sich, dass sich schon auf der Stufe der nichtlebendigen Natur Fragen stellen, die im direkten erfahrungswissenschaftlichen Zugriff nicht zu beantworten sind. Begründbar wird Naturphilosophie dadurch, dass auf ihre eigene Methode reflektiert wird. Denn indem sie empirische, phänomenologische und hermeneutische Verfahren miteinander verbindet, klärt Naturphilosophie die Frage, wie sich Natur für unsere Erfahrung konstituiert. D. h. sie fragt nach der Konstitution sowie nach den Konstitutionsbedingungen alles natürlich Gegebenen. Von den unteren Erfahrungsstufen bis zum Menschen aufsteigend führt das Begründungsproblem dann zum Nachweis, dass es am Ende die Konstitution des Menschen selbst ist, die seine Naturerfahrung bedingt. Bei der Bestimmung dieser Konstitution folgt Plessner einer langen philosophischen Tradition mit der Feststellung, dass der Mensch die Möglichkeiten seines Menschseins erst als gesellschaftliches Wesen voll ausschöpfen kann. Dementsprechend lässt sich als Ergebnis der Arbeit formulieren: "Indem sich menschliches Leben gesellschaftlich konstituiert, konstituiert sich dem Menschen die Welt gesellschaftlich. Das ist das letzte Wort der Plessnerschen Ontologie.
