Die Besonderheit des Buches liegt in… der Verbindung der Ideen gendersensibler Väterarbeit mit den besonderen Herausforderungen, die sich für Familien mit einem Kind mit Behinderung stellen. Dazu werden zunächst der aktuelle Diskurs über Vaterschaft, die Entwicklungen durch väterpolitische Maßnahmen sowie die Rolle und Bedeutung von Vätern für Familie und Gesellschaft behandelt. Denn Väter von Kindern mit Behinderung sind zunächst einmal Väter und damit vor die gleichen Fragen gestellt wie alle Väter. Des Weiteren werden unter Einbezug eigener Forschungsbefunde die besondere Situation von Vätern von Kindern mit Behinderung, deren Rolle im Alltag sowie Belastungen, Bewältigung und Hilfesuchverhalten diskutiert. Daraus werden Kriterien für gendersensible Väterarbeit abgeleitet und Schritte der Übersetzung in väterorientierte Angebote vorgestellt. An Best-Practice-Beispielen wird aufgezeigt, was Väter zur Teilnahme motiviert und welche Auswirkungen der Austausch mit anderen Vätern auf ihr eigenes Selbstverständnis als Vater sowie für die gesamte Familie haben. Aus diesen Befunden werden Empfehlungen für die Arbeit mit Vätern abgeleitet.
