Condizione: Good. First Edition. Binnenkort is het 100 jaar geleden dat het Naardermeer door Jac.P. Thijsse en K. Heijmans gered werd van een aanstaande bestemming als vuilnisbelt van Amsterdam. Hiermee was de oprichting van de Vereniging Natuurmonumenten een feit. Albert Beintema groeide op nabij het Naardermeer. Ruim veertig j…aar geleden kreeg hij als scholier een vergunning om in dit unieke vogelgebied - het eerste gebied in eigendom van het latere Natuurmonumenten - naar vogels te kijken. Hij schreef daar verslagen over in dagboekvorm. Vorig jaar bezocht hij het meer opnieuw. In dit boek vergelijkt hij zijn ervaringen van nu met die van toen, ongeveer halverwege het 100-jarige bestaan van dit natuurmonument, toen otters nog gewoon waren en niemand van Galloway-runderen had gehoord. Beintema is als bioloog ruim dertig jaar werkzaam bij Alterra. Hij deed onderzoek aan weidevogels;daarnaast nam hij deel aan twee zuidpoolexpedities. Zijn bizarre ervaringen met Braziliaanse en Poolse poolonderzoekers legde hij vast in In de voetsporen van Shackleton (1995). Hij bezocht het meest afgelegen eiland ter wereld en schreef daarover Het waterhoentje van Tristan da Cunha (1997). Zijn kennis over weidevogels maakte hij voor publiek toegankelijk in de Ecologische Atlas van de Nederlandse Weidevogels (1995).
