Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. xlvii, 287, xii, to 572p., plus 16p (Society matters for the year 1890), hardbound in black cloth boards gilt, a color we have not before encountered, normally seeing the 'Second Series' blue cloth. Edges untrimmed, good book design. Plates, maps and vignettes as called for, these 19thC cuts being very sharper than 20…thC reproductions. Several maps are folded and we found a fine doublespread. The bad news, these are ex library copies from a Brit institution; the good news, don't think they were checked out much. Rubber-stamping is plentiful but no pockets or borrower's stuff, and accession marks are accompanied by de-accession stamps. Expect tiny dings and bumps to boards & corner-tips, crimps to spine rims, the signs of wear to each about the same, within we found a quarter-inch marginal tear at xi/xii, the only such. Hinges quite sound, gilt bright, ex lib status or not, these remain handsome and handleable. 'Works issued', nos. LXXVII, LXXX. 'First series' but not so specified, perhaps because the true first issues in distinctive black cloth gilt. Tails of spines are further coded with numerals gilt: 24716, 25165.
