Bengtz, Ture (illustratore). green, red,white & black trade paperback soft cover 8vo. fine cond. binding square & tight. spine uncreased. covers clean. edges clean. erasure spot on front flyleaf, otherwise contents free of markings. first edition. first printing (nap). nice clean copy. no library markings, store stamps, stickers, bookplates, no names, inking , underlining, remainder markings etc ~. b&w illustrated frontis. & title pg. 163p. b&w map. b&w illustrations throughout by Ture Bengtz. american history. american indian history. biography. history of virginia. ~ Thomas and Jennie Wiley lived on Walker's Creek in Bland County, Virginia. In 1789 a small band of Indians attacked the Wiley cabin and killed Jennie's three older children and her brother. Jennie was taken captive along with her baby son. Quickly, the Indians and their captives moved westward into what is now Kentucky. Jennie's only hope for herself and her child was to keep pace with her captors. The Indians moved northwest into the Big Sandy Valley of Kentucky. Unable to cross the flooded Ohio River, they retreated to a series of winter camps in present~day Carter, Lawrence, and Johnson (Kentucky) Counties. With only a rock bluff for shelter, Jennie spent the winter laboring as a slave. After almost a year in captivity, Jennie escaped, miraculously evading pursuit as she made her way to a small settlement at Harman's Station on John's Creek, where settlers helped her return to her husband. The author, Arville Wheeler. was inspired to write this book because his grandmother told him the story of Jennie Wiley when he was a child. It's a great book for readers in grades 4~8 but teenagers and adults will enjoy it. too.

A fine essay of art criticism by Will Barnet, and an Appraisal and Commentary by Richard C. Bartlett, plus an essay by his son Lanci Valentine. First Edition, bound in an oblong hardcover format, cloth covers, with small color pastedown. Printed paper dust jacket, but with two large closed tears; housed now in a plastic bag. Interior quite bright and fine. 135 pp., and with plentiful full-page, full-color and black-and-white illustrations. Previous owner's embossed stamp at first free endpaper. 9 1/2" x 12 1/2". Complete with "Recollections of My Father by Lanci Valentine and Tributes by His Friends." Personal copy of Aldis J. Browne of Art Consultant dot com, a curator and art adviser based in California. His clients, both private and museums, encircle the globe - from the Australian National Gallery to the Metropolitan Museum. Museum exhibits include: Munch, Klee and Dali (from his web-site). Laid in is a letter to him from Ture Bengtz's son, Lanci Valentine.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
