With this English translation is published an appendix 'setting forth the plagiarisms, false translations, and false grammar in Thomas Phillips's History of the Life of Reginald Pole'. Phillips' book, about which Pye is highly critical, was first published in 1764. Nineteenth-century quarter leather, spine lettered gilt, over marbled paper. Twentieth-century ownership stamp to ffep. Title page has small, faint previous ownership inscription and small ink stamp which is largely abraded. Some spotting and browning. Little cracking to binding with partial loosening of one section. Otherwise sound, very good.
