In this book they meet new friends and their garden, and hear the stories of living things such as bees and butterflies and hands. Of the children will enjoy joining them in their adventures. Just a delightful collection of stories that will charm and the child, as well as many hurdles. This is a sequel to JOHN AND WENDY AND THINGS (1946), both examples of juvenile natural history. Hogben also wrote ANCIENT AND MODERN MARVELS (1945) and also a book on navigation, all geared toward children. I was unable to find biographical information on the author. Gilbert Rumbold was a prolific illustrator in the 1930s, especially known for his Art Deco inspired illustrations. He created beautiful fashion illustrations, decorative maps and - those 1930s obsessions - motor cars, ships and airplanes. It is, however, the Savoy Cocktail book for which he is most well known.
