No puede decirse que esa afirmación sea incorrecta, ya que la orden procede de las antiguas cofradías de arquitectos, escultores y albañiles que levantaron las catedrales de la cristiandad y, en algunos de sus grados, se muestra como depositaria de los valores y secretos de las órdenes de caballería. Sin embargo, esto no es óbice para afirmar que el tuétano de buena parte de sus ritos es inequívocamente hebraico. Elementos simbólicos como el Templo de Jerusalén o la menorá, y personajes como el rey Salomón o Hiram Abif, sobre los que se asientan las enseñanzas iniciáticas de la masonería, son de raíz judía. En este breve ensayo, publicado originalmente en 1929, el maestro masón Bernard Shillman expone el sustrato hebraico de la orden, mostrando al lector los pasajes del Tanakh y del Talmud, y las costumbres judías de las que proceden emblemas masónicos como el compás, aspectos ceremoniales como que la iniciación deba realizarse con el pie derecho descalzo o que el nombre de Dios sea considerado inefable. *** Nota: Los envíos a España peninsular, Baleares y Canarias se realizan a través de mensajería urgente. Shillman's book was one of the first to address the long Jewish presence in Ireland. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition. A scarce book, printed for private distribution by Cahill and distributed… by Eason & Son in Dublin. Red cloth binding with black titling on the spine. Clean text; 151 pages, with index and bibliography; plus one page advertising another of Shillman's books. Small bookseller's label on the front paste-down. In general, the text is in good condition; however there is considerable spotting to the endpapers, continuing to the Title Page and Table of Contents. This seems to be connected to offsetting from the dustwrapper. The DW is Very Good; slightly tanned on the spine and with a chip at the crown. There is a tan line of about 1/2" running horizontally across the top and the bottom. Laid-in are some newspaper clippings regarding the same subject as the book. In an archival plastic protector. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (Plus)/Very Good (Minus). 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
