Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: Good. New Vision Partners and USC Center for Religion and Civic Culture [Published date: 2004]. Soft cover, 79 pp. Text in English, with a French translation of p. 5-15. In good condition. Black and white pictorial paper covers have light bumping to edges and corners and light overall soiling and scuffing.… Binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked. NOT Ex-library. NO remainder marks. Photographs by Jerry Berndt. In 1994, over a period of 100 days, at least 800,000 people were killed in the small country of Rwanda, located in the Great Lakes region of central Africa. The devastation caused by the genocide is evident in images from genocide memorials: weapons, lye-covered human remains, and rows of skulls. In 2002,USC professor Donald E. Miller and his wife Lorna Touryan Miller began a partnership with an association of orphans (AOCM) after attending an international conference on genocide in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. Drawing on their expertise in oral history, they worked with the leadership of this organization to document the members' experiences of the genocide and their current struggle for survival. One hundred interviews were tape recorded, transcribed, and translated into English. Subsequently, another project was launched with an association of widows (AVEGA) who survived the genocide, and sixty interviews were done. On two different occasions, photojournalist Jerry Berndt joined the Millers to photograph the orphans, genocide memorial sites, and various non-governmental organizations that are working with survivors in Rwanda. This book contains excerpts from several of the interviews along with Berndt's stunning photographs.

Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. Jerry Berndt documented the period between 1968 and 1980 in America like no other photographer. Personally involved in the anti- Vietnam War activities of the 1960s, Berndt's work combines photojournalism with documentary, conceptual and street photography to create a unique view of America…'s social constitution during these decisive years. Berndt consistently placed himself near political conflict, systematically portraying the spectrum of America's people and cityscapes, including the middle and working classes, as well as the inhabitants of America's often ignored ghettos. His work from this period shows how Americans expressed themselves culturally and socially, while exposing the foundation of America's changeable urban infrastructure. This book visualizes an important, uneasy period of transition in America's recent history, and highlights the literal and ironic aspects of its "beauty." hardcover. Condizione: As New. Prima edizione (First Edition). Volume realizzato in occasione della mostra tenutasi preso il Museum fur Photographie, Braunschweig 19 settembre - 2 novembre 2008. Testi di Maik Schluter, Susanne Holschbach, Felix Hoffmann, Kathrin Peters. 97 fotografie a colori e in bianco e nero. Biografie. Edizi…one in tedesco e inglese . Cm 24,5x28,5. pp. 246. . Perfetto (Mint). . Prima edizione (First Edition). . (16 col. ). 25 x 29 cm. -- with a bonus offe…r--; According to Magnum photographer Eugene Richards, American-born, Paris-based photographer Jerry Berndt goes somewhere and makes you feel what it felt like, not just what it looked like." Over the course of his four-decade-plus career in photography, Berndt has erased the routine divide between spontaneous documentary photography and Conceptual artwork. Berndt first achieved public acclaim with his now-famous work, Combat Zone (1967-1970), which documented life in Boston's red-light district. At the beginning of the 1970s, Berndt pitched commercial iconography of the day-to-day world against the psychology of nocturnal moods with the project Nite Works, a series of night-time shots of American and European cities. With his documentations of the anti-Vietnam War movement and of homelessness in America in the early 1980s, Berndt put his finger on the unresolved conflicts of his country and photographed them unflinchingly, always cutting directly to the emotional content of the subject at hand. Gathering these numerous projects, Insight surveys Berndt's work from the 1960s to the 1980s--in single images, sequences and series, and almost exclusively in black-and-white.".
