Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book tells the story of Peregrine Bertie, the first Lord Willoughby de Eresby, a man whose life was shaped by the tumultuous religious and political climate of sixteenth-century England. The author meticulously traces Peregrine's lineage, exploring the intertwined fates of two prominent families: the Brandons and the Courtneys, both closely connected to the English crown. We witness how Peregrineââ â¢s birth, in exile with his mother, the Duchess of Suffolk, amidst religious persecution, was a testament to the power of faith and resistance. The author also discusses the complex web of political intrigue, power struggles, and personal tragedies that defined the lives of these noble families. The book delves into the legacy of Peregrine Bertie, examining his rise to prominence within the court of Queen Elizabeth I, and ultimately, to the title of Lord Willoughby. Through careful examination of primary sources and historical records, the author reveals the political and social forces that propelled Peregrineââ â¢s rise, while also exploring his personal struggles and triumphs. The book offers a captivating glimpse into a period of significant transformation in English history, where religious tensions and dynastic ambitions intertwined to shape the lives of individuals and families alike. This is a rich and insightful exploration of a fascinating historical figure and his world. When Leicester left the Netherlands he became commander in chief of the English troops, which he stationed in Geertruidenberg. He was also governor of Bergen op Zoom in 1586.
