Hardcover. Condizione: New. 1st Edition. The world is changing very rapidly. Technological and industrial revolution is in its climax in the human history. Blend of science and technology is in such a juncture that natural arrangements can be altered by the scientific endeavors like: human cloning and robotics. Such kind of development has its own pros and cons, and impacting human health, nutrition and population structure. Documentation of such rampant changing world is becoming difficult; all events can t be recorded. In future, there would not be evidences of such events. They may not be important or vice-versa. This book is an attempt to record some of important changes of health and nutrition being taken place among children, adolescents and mothers. There would also be glimpses of fertility and mortality. The book is divided into 13 chapters. The chapters are derived from the research papers presented in an International Conference entitled Indigenous People, Human Security and Sustainable Development: Emerging Challenges in the Present Global Context held at Kolkata during 19-21 Jan 2018 organized by Commission of Human Rights, International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES) and Department of Anthropology, West Bengal State University, Barasat Kolkata 700 126. The book is a good collection on contemporary research among the indigenous populations of India and Bangladesh. First chapter is devoted to traditional knowledge of ethnomedicine among tribes of India. The chapter is contributed by the scientists and consultant of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Second chapter is jointly contributed by scholars of Poland and India. The central theme focused in this chapter is onset of puberty and nutritional status among female students with aim to evaluate the association between age at menarche and the potential economic (parents occupation status) and social correlates viz. religious and caste system, level of parents education, place of residence, number of children in a family etc. it concluded that age at puberty is affected by economic and nutritional status as well as body weight and the BMI. Chapter 3,4,5,6,7 and 8 are devoted to nutritional status of children and adult of Bangladesh and India. Still in developing countries large proportion of children are undernourished but gradually childhood obesity is also penetrating so there is dual burden of the problem. In these chapters, there is debate and facts about under nutrition as well as malnutrition among the indigenous population of India and Bangladesh. Chapter 9, 10 and 11 are focused n maternal health among indigenous population of India and Bangladesh. Chapter 12 is focused on body composition and physiological function among elderly males of Punjab whereas chapter 13 is highlighting the mortality indicators among particularly vulnerable tribe known as Bharia of Central India. The book can be used as reference book by the student of Anthropology, Economy, Sociology, Pediatrics, Gynaecology, Health Administration and Policy Planning.…

Hardcover. Condizione: New. 1st Edition. Developing Nations bear the greatest burden of infectious disease and have limitations on the food front as well. These two situations work synergistically to put a lot of stress on the physical growth of children living in the developings world thus impinging on their health, survival and habitual physical activity. Professor Amartya Sen, the Nobel Prize winner in Economics in 1998 dedicated his efforts to work on the welfare economics by correlating the health situation with economic indicators. In a real and functional sense, the size of the children, adolescents and adults is indicative of the fact how a nation performs on its economic and developmental front. Though nobody doubts the interaction between genetics and environment in determining the outcome of child growth, extricating the effects of these two is highly cumbersome. A large number of studies have indicated that the growth performance of children in the developing world is slower than their peer in the developed world. Indian scenario of child growth and development is alarming. Data compiled by WHO has shown that underweight children in India below the age of 5 years constitutes 43.5 per cent of all children during the year 2006. This is a huge number and an eye opener for every progressive Indian. This volume is the outcome of the papers dedicated to the Panel "BH 01: Health, Nutrition and Physical Growth in Developing Nations" of the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES) World Congress "Evolving humanity, emerging worlds" held at Manchester, UK, from 5th-10th August, 2013. Different papers in this edited volume throw light on the status of children throughout India and delve in detail about the conditions in which they are living and thriving. It is expected that this book will be of immense value to the scholars (viz. students of anthropology, biology, demography, economics, geography, sociology, medicine, public health, health management etc.) and planners equally.
