A sustained feat of story telling in prose by one of Australia's major poets. Its theme is the Gallipoli Campaign of 1915. Using the Chaucerian device of a band of story-tellers, Blocksidge has nine Gallipoli veterans each tell their stories. Blocksidge was an Australian writer, poet and political theorist. In 1925 changed his name to Baylebridge and consciously cultivated the air of a mysterious and reclusive prophet-poet. This involved not only the archaic style of his poetry and prose, but also his eschewing of all forms of conventional publicity.
