Jahrhunderts überdauert hat, bildet den Ausgangspunkt für die neue Ausstellung in der Nationalgalerie, die zu den Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin gehört. In zehn Kapiteln werden Werke aus der Sammlung Marx und neuere Positionen vorgestellt, die assoziativ den Wortlaut von Beuys' gleichnamiger Skulptur "Das Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts" aufgreifen, gleichzeitig den Horizont des Titels erweitern und in Frage stellen. Der Katalog basiert auf dem Prinzip der Collage, die das Berliner Grafikbüro cyan in Zusammenarbeit mit der Redaktion eigens für die im Buch gezeigten Kunstwerke und die ausgewählten Texte entwickelt hat. Die unterschiedlichen Texte und Textformate von der Philosophie bis zur Poesie, die das 20. Jahrhundert als mentalen Raum reflektieren treten in einen Dialog mit den Bildern.
