In den Zwanziger Jahren formierte sich die Gr…uppe "De Stijl", welche die Entwicklung der konstruktiven Kunst und Gestaltung maßgeblich prägte und als eine der wichtigsten Strömungen der klassischen Moderne in die Kunstgeschichte einging. Das Credo des "De Stjil"-Kreises wirkt bis heute in Kunst, Architektur und Industrial Design der Niederlande nach, indem es in gestalterischen Kreisen im ästhetischen Programm "less is more" seine Fortsetzung findet. Bob Bonies ist insofern ein Nachfolger des "de Stijl"-Kreises, als er sich nicht allein auf die freie Kunst konzentriert, sondern seine Tätigkeit auf Kunst am Bau, Industrial Design und Kunstpädagogik ausgeweitet und die Idee der Pioniere, die bildnerischen Aspekte auf die Umweltgestaltung zu übertragen, konsequent in der Praxis nachgelebt hat. Zudem ist Bonies sozusagen ein Pionier der zweiten Stunde, indem er durch seine konstruktive Malerei der geometrischen Richtung in der niederländischen Kunst in den Sechziger Jahren zu einem neuen Auftrieb verholfen hat.
