Der Zweck der Arbeit ist demzufolge, einen ersten wissenschaftlichen Einblick in die Hochzeitsbranche zu geben und so eine grundlegende Basis für die Professionalisierung der Kommunikation von Hochzeitsagenturen zu liefern. Der Begriff Hochzeitsmarketing umfasst die Vermarktung hochzeitsspezifischer Produkte und Dienstleistungen. Darüber hinaus kann die Nutzung des Themas Hochzeit im Rahmen des Marketings und zur Umsetzung der Kommunikationsziele als Hochzeitsmarketing bezeichnet werden. Hochzeitsmarketing kann in Bezug auf Hochzeitsplanung dem Veranstaltungsmarketing zugeordnet werden, da es um die Vermarktung von Veranstaltungen geht. Um den Bedarf des Hochzeitsplaners zu begründen, ist zunächst festzuhalten, dass aufgrund gesellschaftlicher Veränderungen ein Wandel des Heiratsverhaltens in Deutschland stattgefunden hat. Hochzeiten sind individueller geworden, und Brautpaare streben nach Individualität, Authentizität, Erlebnis und Selbstdarstellung. Zudem ist eine Abnahme kirchlicher Trauungen und eine Zunahme freier Trauungen zu verzeichnen. Wegen des Wegfalls institutioneller Handlungsvorgaben ist die Eigenverantwortung der Brautpaare gestiegen. Verunsicherung über Abläufe, Rituale und Verhaltensweisen ist bei vielen Paaren gegeben. Es existiert kein modernes Hochzeitsmodell zur Orientierung. Somit ist ein verstärkter Beratungsbedarf von Seiten potentieller Brautpaare abzuleiten, wodurch die Nachfrage nach der Dienstleistung Hochzeitsplanung begründet werden kann. Im Rahmen der Übertragung der konsumentenpsychologischen Aspekte im Bereich Dienstleistungskommunikation auf die identifizierte Zielgruppe kann angemerkt werden, dass es sich um High-Involvement-Konsumenten handelt. Dementsprechend wird aufgezeigt, dass bei der Botschaftsgestaltung emotionale und sachliche Informationen wirkungsversprechend sind.
