Aggiungi al carrelloHardback. Condizione: Very Good. Muirhead Bone (illustratore). Second Edition. 1925. Second impression. 184pp., a frontispiece and 15 other full-page black and white illustrations by the author's brother Muihead Bone (1876-1953). The author of this book, James Bone (1872-1962), was a British journalist, London editor of the Manchester Guardian for 33 years. He was also author of a number of books, and is probably best known for his works on Edinburgh and London. This collection of essays on various aspects of London and Londoners contains much material that had originally appeared in the pages of The Manchester Guardian. The book is bound in the original purple cloth covered boards with a paper title label on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and light soiling on the boards. The spine ends and corners are bumped with some damage to the cloth at the spine ends. There is a split in the cloth of about 1" on the top of the front spine edge and a split of about 1/4" on the top of the rear spine edge. The title label on the spine is browned and the spine is slightly faded. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few marks from finger smudges, etc., mostly on the fore edge of some of the early pages. There is some soiling near the bottom of page 34 and the facing illustration which has two small tears on the bottom edge. Page 86 and the facing illustration have some more noticeable soiling around the bottom few inches of the spine edge. There is a signed inscription on the front free endpaper from the author's brother David William Bone (1874-1959), a Scottish Commodore and author of nautical fiction. The inscription reads: "To John S. Mawson? with warm regards David Wm. Bone. Christmas 1925". Signed and Inscribed by the Au.
