Non c'è bisogno di chiedersi perché mai, a un secolo e mezzo dalla sua prima edizione, il romanzo dei Promessi Sposi continuamente riservi alla ricerca letteraria, non tanto umbratili cantucci di ludismo erudito o pretesti accademici per esasperate filologie, quanto occasioni di confronto non meno vive di quelle della sua contemporaneità e spazi sempre aperti per nuove opportunità invenitive. Anche una provocazione critica semplice come la nostra, da null'altro rappresentata che dai microquesiti di cui in appresso, non ha difficoltà a dimostrare, infatti, la perdurante ulteriorità dei valori dell'opera manzoniana, la sua equanime modernità in quest'ora di pensiero controverso e di intelligenze che non lesinano asprezze o radicalità di giudizio, puntualizzazioni e riserve d'ogni tipo, rivisitazioni neometodologiche, non conta se impietose, quanto se non sempre propriamente ortodosse. Pensata come corredo dialogico (come tavola rotonda partecipata a distanza e con adesioni sufficienti per un esito intersoggettivo), proprio in contesto a una serie di saggi dalla netta impronta personale ospitati dalla rivista OTTO/NOVECENTO in occasione del centocinquantesimo della prima apparizione dei Promessi Sposi (1827-1977), questa Inchiesta sulla Ventisettana così pluralmente accolta da dover essere a suo tempo distribuita su due numeri ha confermato, proprio in virtù d'una ribadita scansione dei punti di vista degli intervenuti, l'intatta disponibilità dell'opera a continuare a vivere di interpretazioni e di arricchimenti, degli inesauribili atti della coscienza giudicante, delle reinventate congenialità della fruizione critica.
