This copy is number 99 of an evidently limited edition. 8vo; original grey cloth with black lettering to spine, and publisher's device in black to upper cover; pp. (viii) + XXXVII + 118. Light wear to extremities of sunned spine; top fore-corners of boards turned; earlier owner's hand-stamp to front pastedown and free endpaper; light browning throughout; trace of ripple to top edge. Good condition. Afrikaans text. A compilation of several early Afrikaans plays and dialogues, with a lengthy historical and critical introduction. Perhaps the most significant of the works included is S J du Toit's 'Magrita Prinslo', concerning which J C Kannemeyer writes: 'Die drama Magrita Prinslo, of Liifde getrou tot in di dood (opgevoer in 1897) bestaan uit vyf bedrywe, maar daar is so min samehang en innerlike noodwendigheid dat 'n mens eerder kan praat van 'n verhaal in dertien tonele. Dit is die geskiedenis van Magrita en Pieter wat van mekaar geskei word as gevolg van die Groot Trek: sy gaan saam met Retief en sy mense, terwyl hy in die Kolonie agterbly. Op die trek versprei Koos, wat die skurk van die verhaal is en 'n ogie op Magrita het, die gerug dat Pieter deur die Zoeloes vermoor is, maar sy bly getrou "tot in di dood" en wys vir Koos af. Die laaste van die dertien toneeltjies wys waar die Zoeloes die laer aanval en Pieter net betyds op 'n perd opdaag om sy gewonde beminde te red.
