Contemporary half calf, gilt, shelf worn. xxiv, 414; viii, 479pp. London, The Phillipp's copy with ownership inscription on title page.   Most of this work describes the survey of the east African coast, from the Cape Colony to Cape Gardafui on the Red Sea, with visits to Madagascar and the Seychelles. Melinde and Mombassa are also visited and described in some detail. Over 20,000 miles of coast were charted on this expedition. The members of the expedition suffered greatly from fever, which cost the lives of numerous officers.   Captain W. F. Owen also produced an account of this expedition, A Narrative of Voyages to Explore the Shores of Africa, Arabia and Madagascar in HM Ships Leven and Barracouta.
