The reason for this, and for the abundance of proverbs about the camel, is suggested by Bowen in an Introduction in which he assesses proverbs to be 'the oldest, wisest and best remembered philosophy in the world' This dedicated copy has been signed by the author on the obverse of the f.e.p.
