Condition: Good Plus. Light wear to covers and corners. One lightly cracked hinge. Pages holding tight and moderately age-toned. The first essay is a reminiscence of his days as a student at The University of St. Andrews. His work is humorous and notably unstuffy for a Victorian clergyman from, well, Scotland. A.K.H B., or Andrew Kennedy Hutchinson Boyd (1825-1899) has been described as "a miscellaneous writer." Born into the bosom of the Scottish kirk, he qualified first as a barrister, but eventually followed the family line into religion, becoming a Church of Scotland minister in several Ayrshire locales south of Glasgow. He supplemented his income with columns for Fraser's Magazine, beginning in 1859, with the catchy title of: "Recreations of a Country Parson." His fame as both minister and author grew in tandem. In later years, Boyd was appointed Moderator of the Assembly of the Church of Scotland, a high calling, upon a high hill, overlooking today's Waverley train station in Edinburgh.
