Large octavo, original cloth, worn at corners and edges of covers, spine faded and worn with original printed paper label almost rubbed away, some foxing, frontispiece and tissue guard somewhat foxed, good. It is diffiucult to reconstruct what writings of Boyd's have been completely lost. The manuscripts for much unpublished material were traced to a London apothecary in 1760 and restored to the University of Glasgow, and it is from these manuscripts that Neil produced this present work. Neil gives an account of surviving manuscripts, as well as remarks on printed works and their editions. In checking both STC and Wing, it is apparent that very few indeed of any of Boyd's works survive, and some are known in one perfect example only.
