Urfa fand in der Namensgebung türkischer Gaststätten den Weg nach Deutschland, wo der Künstler Matti Braun darauf aufmerksam wurde. In dem Buch "Özurfa" entwickelt Braun ein erzählerisches Netz, das sich den kulturellen Mythen Urfas widmet. Den Titel kann man mit echt, authentisch Urfa" übersetzen. Für Matti Braun stellte sich hier die Frage nach der kulturellen Identität, die damit versprochen wird. Ihr wird durch die Beschäftigung mit archäologischen Ausgrabungsorten, religiösen Kultstätten und vielen mit Urfa im Zusammenhang stehenden Personen und Geschichten nachgegangen. Ein kreatives Autorenkollektiv von Kritikern, Literaten, Künstlern und Kuratoren versucht eine Annäherung.
