Aggiungi al carrelloBrossura. Condizione: new. Milano, 2013; br., pp. XII-602, ill., cm 11x17. CONTENTS: Preface; Introduction; (Chapter 1) Sets.; (Chapter 2) Counting Techniques.; (Chapter 3) Permutations and Groups.; (Chapter 4) Mathematical Induction and the Binomial Theorem.; (Chapter 5) Probability.; Review of Material; Review Exercises; List of Symbols; Further Reading; Index. EXCERPT: .We attempt in these texts to introduce the student to topics that are vital to an understanding of more advanced mathematics. A basic concept is that of function. In Volume I many facets of this concept are discussed. We also cover in this and the other volumes such topics as sets, logic, combinatorial analysis, finite probability, differential calculus, vectors, matrices and complex numbers. It should not be thought that we are presenting advanced material in any of these topics. In all cases we are dealing only with the most elementary aspects of the subject. .In this series we hope that the varied needs of different students will be satisfied. Each of the four books is virtually independent of the others. We say virtually independent, since at the very least a grasp of the notion of function as it is developed in the early sections of Volume I is required for an intelligent appreciation of the other volumes. Thus each book could be the basis for a separate course. The exercises at the end of each section are graded from easy to difficult. In the latter exercises we sometimes assume results or procedures that are discussed in other books of the series. The student who has mastered the contents of these four books has laid a firm foundation for advanced work in many aspects of mathematics. We have also attempted to explain in sufficient detail those aspects of the subject that beginners usually find difficult. We have kept in mind that mathematics is more than just the formal manipulation of symbols. Thus we have endeavoured to motivate the student in order to build up his mathematical intuition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Crisp copy. This is extracted from a larger bound volume with remnants of the binding on the spine. GOOD copy for that. __+__ "Built in 1943-45 at the Moore School of the University of Pennsylvania for the War effort by John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert. but not delivered to the Army until just after the end of the war, the Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer (ENIAC) was the first general-purpose electronic digital computer. It was 150 feet wide with 20 banks of flashing lights and about 300 times faster than the Mark 1 at addition. The ENIAC was not a stored-program computer; it is "better described as a collection of electronic adding machines and other arithmetic units, which were originally controlled by a web of large electrical cables" (David Alan Grier, IEEE Annals of the History of Computing, Jul-Sep 2004, p.2). It was programmed by a combination of plugboard wiring and three "portable function tables".--Wiki.
