Odbyl niepelne studia artystyczne w latach 1845-1846 i 1848-1849 na Akademii Sztuk Pieknych w Monachium. W 1853 r. na Akademii Budowlanej w Berlinie otrzymal tytul nauczyciela rysunku. Od 1854 nauczyciel rysunku w Krolewskiej Akademii Rycerskiej w Legnicy, w 1898 uzyskal tytul profesora. Byl owczesnie popularnym, choc dosc przecietnym, malarzem i rysownikiem pejzazy oraz widokow architektonicznych, znany jest przede wszystkim jako autor rysunkow do cenionej ilustrowanej pracy krajoznawczo-historycznej autorstwa Franz Schroller: Schlesien [.].
