The ôfiligranaö technique already known in Murano in the XVI century is obtained by joining two conical vases under heat, covered externally with thin threads, one arrranged clockwise and then anticlockwise. A network is thus formed in the form of a chessboard-like pattern. The threads with different thickness, within each quarangle, cause the characteristic bubble. This book is on the arrangement of an international competition involving not only the replica of the old plate from 1709 but also putting reticello into modern context. This is a catalogue of international glass artists using this technique., English/ Danish, Year2002, Illust. B/W2, Illust. Color63, ISBN 8791179017, Code 4991. This beautiful catalogue presents a series of pieces by a Danish artist created in the period from 1990-2002. Through creative experiments carried out in his small one-man studio, Marquis has been able to cross boundaries for ôwhat is possible to achieveö with hot glass. His works are full of colour, energy and humour. Something the Scandinavians need during the long, dark winter period. He employs a fluid and gracefulprecision to create a stumblebum cast of characters, from pots and collages to soapbox derby racers and paintings in miniature, tiny squares., English/ Danish, Year2002, Illust. Includes an informative essay by Grace Cochrane, Director at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, Australia, who was one of the selectors for the show. The artists in this exhibition were selected from over 70 submissions and reflect the broad scope of glassmaking in New Zealand at this moment. This richly illustrated catalogue includes beautifully photographed color images of all the pieces shown in the exhibition at the museum. Morris (born 1957 in California) has worked with glass for more than 20 years. The hot, thick, syrupy substance continues to be a challenge for him to work with and through which he can express himself. Some of his works are large, blown sculptures inspired by his fascination for our ancestorsÆ physical fight to survive and the hunt for food by killing prey. It is almost as if his work challenges us. It reminds us that, despite the large technological development and no matter how artificial the world can be - everyone has some kind of recognizable connection to prehistoric times., English/ Danish, Year2003, Illust. Guggisberg (Swiss) and Baldwin (American) have been working together in glass for over twenty years, marrying the ôSwedish overlayö and Italian cold-working to create surface texture elaboration more than decoration and embellishment. Some of the cuts, the rounded ôBattutoö are cosmic, geomorphic, or biological in a sense, stemming from precision and subtle alterations in their cutting techniques. Glasmuseet Ebeltoft is deighted to have this opportunity to show the work of these two outstanding artists in Denmark., English/ Danish, Year2002, Illust. B/W4, Illust.
