The ôfiligranaö technique already known in Murano in the XVI century is obtained by joining two conical vases under heat, covered externally with thin threads, one arrranged clockwise and then anticlockwise. A network is thus formed in the form of a chessboard-like pattern. The threads with different thickness, within each quarangle, cause the characteristic bubble. This book is on the arrangement of an international competition involving not only the replica of the old plate from 1709 but also putting reticello into modern context. This is a catalogue of international glass artists using this technique., English/ Danish, Year2002, Illust. B/W2, Illust. Color63, ISBN 8791179017, Code 4991. Young international glass artistsÆ competition held in 1996 at the Glasmuseum in Ebeltoft in Denmark resulted in a dynamic exhibition of young artists from Europe and Asia. Though glass blowing equipment has not changed a great deal since the 17th century, innovations from the younger generation continue to appear, and the Glasmuseum aims to promote experimentation in glass art. A great collection to point the way to the future of glass in sculpture as well as functional objects., English/ Danish/ Japanese, Year1997, Illust. B/W, Illust. Color64, ISBN 8789975189, Code 2946. Beautifully designed, this catalogue presents this Swedish/German artist who has her roots solidly planted in Scandinavia. A large number of the works making up the exhibition ôObservationsö are illustrated in this catalogue. This is her largest retrospective exhibition to date. She expresses herself in glass with a remarkable degree of strong personal presence, and in a rather avant-garde way. She uses her material to the utmost, but she also goes beyond glass. In her choice of materials she also uses graphics and bronze to express herself, which are also included in this exhibition. She transcends barriers in the mind in a provoking and observing way, etching and carving both figuratively and abstract into the glass., English/ Danish, Year2005, Illust. B/W9, Illust. This richly illustrated catalogue includes beautifully photographed color images of all the pieces shown in the exhibition at the museum. Morris (born 1957 in California) has worked with glass for more than 20 years. The hot, thick, syrupy substance continues to be a challenge for him to work with and through which he can express himself. Some of his works are large, blown sculptures inspired by his fascination for our ancestorsÆ physical fight to survive and the hunt for food by killing prey. It is almost as if his work challenges us. It reminds us that, despite the large technological development and no matter how artificial the world can be - everyone has some kind of recognizable connection to prehistoric times., English/ Danish, Year2003, Illust.
