Aggiungi al carrelloCondizione: New. 2014 reprint of the 1914 War Office publication. SB. iv + 150ppPublished Price £11.50 This Intelligence Directorate publication consists of two parts: the Handbook of the Belgian Army of 1906 and a supplementary âField Notes on the Belgian Army, 1914,â which updates the order of battle and organisational details. The contents actually show this second part as including field notes on the French and German Armies, but only the Belgian Army is featured. All the relevant information is provided on the 1906 Army, conditions of service, infantry, cavalry, artillery etc with unit locations, uniforms, badges of rank, arms, equipment and supply. There is also a chapter on the Gendarmerie and Civic Guard. The Belgian Army was made up of two forces: the Field Army and Fortress Troops. In 1914 the Field Army consisted, like the BEF, of six infantry and one cavalry division and its strength, too, was similar at 150,000. Fortress Troops numbered 130,000.

Aggiungi al carrelloCondizione: New. SB The 1940 part has 337pp, the supplement a further 73 with b/w illus and drawings throughout. To be accurate this book should have been titled âHandbook of the Soviet Armyâ, though the contents page refers to âThe Red Army.â It begins with a short historical sketch covering the Great War, the Revolution and the construction and development of the post-revolution army, the Soviet or Red Army. There is a detailed treatment of the 1940 army in which the combat arms (infantry, cavalry, artillery, armour and engineers) and the services (transport, supply, medical etc) are described with organization, strength and equipment details in each case. Chemical Warfare is also discussed and, of course, the ever-pervading internal security troops, the police, Frontier Guards, Partisan units, womenâs and youth organizations. The supplement provides an update on tactics and organization as well as illustrations of uniforms, badges of rank, service emblems and orders and medals. There are also pictures of guns, tanks and other equipment. There is a glossary of military terms and abbreviations (brush up your cyrillic alphabet) and a list of conventional signs. Even the Navy features in this book of the Red Army.

Aggiungi al carrelloCondizione: New. 2026 N&MP reprint (of original pub 1908). Illustrated with diagrams throughout + colour plate section of Standards, Flags & topographical Signs These Field Service Regulations were translated by the British General Staff from their original German for the education and study of pre-Great War tactics, military thinking and organisation â" this at a point in time when the German military build-up prior to the outbreak of the war was taking place. They are reprinted complete with their colour plate section. In 1908 the reorganisation of the German army was building much of the militaryâs heavy armament in preparation for modern warfare; specifically, the introduction of the machine gun and modern heavy artillery was underway, and the doctrine in these regulations is an important part of any study of the first battles of the Great War.Some of the many topics covered include:⢠WarÂOrganisation â" DistributionÂofÂTroops⢠CommunicationÂbetweenÂStaffs and Troops: Messages, Reports, Sketches and SketchÂMaps, WarÂDiaries⢠Reconnaissance ⢠MixedÂForces of all Arms: Advanced, Flank & Rear Guards ⢠Outposts: Piquets, Infantry Sentries, Infantry Patrols, OutpostsÂinÂSiege Warfare: In the Attack and Defence⢠Field & HeavyÂArtillery, MachineÂGun Battery, Field Balloon Detachment, AmmunitionÂColumns and Train⢠GenevaÂConvention⢠AmmunitionÂSupply⢠MotorÂCars,ÂMotorÂCycles and Bicycles⢠WirelessÂTelegraphy⢠Soldiersâ Wills⢠FieldÂPost Office⢠Carrier PigeonsColour plates:Â⢠ImperialÂStandard ⢠Prussian,ÂWürttembergÂandÂSaxonÂRoyalÂStandards⢠DistinguishingÂFlags for the Head-quarters of an Army, Army Corps and Division ⢠TopographicalÂConventional SignsÂTaken from the introduction:âThe powers of the soldier will only be utilised to full advantage when they are applied as his commander directs. To this end the troops must learn discipline which is the backbone of the army, and without which no victory can be achieved. It must be firmly established and strenuously maintained under all circumstances. An outer semblance of discipline, not consolidated by long training in peace time, will vanish at critical moments or under the influence of unexpected events.â.

Much enlarged and revised US version of the British original 1917 manual. 164pp. This manual was composed using the British War Office notes and reports on the subject; some diagrams have been updated in accordance with intelligence received. It is the vade mecum of trench warfare as seen from the Brtitsh point of view. It covers both defence and attack, but the main part is concerned with the actual construction of trenches - trenches in which the war was fought for over three years.
