Spine with five raised, bands separating compartments each with a gilt tooled floral device; girl-lettered brown morocco spine label in compartment two. Corners of board edges with gilt rolls. All edges gilt. Turn-ins with gilt dentelles. Patterned endpapers. Sewn-in blue satin ribbon placeholder. Signed/stamped by Bayntun-Rivière on verso of FFEP. Bayntun-Riviere is now the last of the great Victorian trade binderies still in family ownership and prides itself on continuing to bind entirely by hand. No writing, ex libris marks or foxing. Minimal signs of handling of any kind. The slipcase is FAIR and in rough shape. Tears, paper loss, a strip has torn off the entrance, rubbed, splitting along seams but it has protected the book inside extremely well. All in all, a superior collectible copy with little wear beyond the sun-exposed spine and in distinguished Bayntun-Riviere beautiful fine binding.
