Red cloth boards with blindstamped decoration at front and back, and gilt decoration and lettering at spine.Boards scuffed and worn. Spine has been repaired, with original spine cloth retained and pasted on. All edges worn to boards, corners worn to boards and bumped. Hinges mobile, but holding, textblock firm.

Exterior is blistered and blackened and leather is dry and extremely brittle on front and spine. Front board is literally hanging on by just a thread and will detach if not careful. Despite the rough exterior the internal portion is in much better shape. Marbled end pages and front and rear. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings. Binding of text pages is strong and tight and paper is only mildly toned though foxing and smudge marks are present. Book is complete and excellent candidate for rebinding.

Walter Murphy was one of the most durable and influential state legislators in North Carolina during the first half of the 20th century.
