Her working method is primarily intuitive. In her designs, she plays with proportions and contrasts, light and materials. She draws her inspiration from nature, her travels, the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Peter Zumthor, Tadao Ando, the furniture designs by Charles & Ray Eames, Eileen Gray, Harry Bertoia, Arne Jacobsen, and Philippe Starck. She searches for the essence of a space, for the character of the interior, for what remains when all marginal issues are banned from the mind's eye. It is precisely this aspect that makes her work so special. She abstracts her interiors without ever allowing them to become too monotonous or sacral; she is not a stylist whose sole aim is the creation of an aesthetic image. Characteristic of the bureau's design approach is that in renovations or conversions the space is stripped down with the greatest respect and care for original details and qualities until the structure of the spatial boundaries is exposed. Francine Broos creates timeless spaces that through their proportions, dimensions, choice of materials, and lighting applications are comfortable to live and work in. Focusing on the interiors themselves and the intensity permeating the work, this publication presents a selection of the projects that Francine Broos has realized since she founded her bureau. Photographer Peter Kooijman has photographed the selected projects especially for this publication. In his photos, he has managed to capture the atmosphere of the interiors and register the immediate visual strength of the designs. (Vorwort / E.
