A very nice copy of Vol 1 of this short lived series (only 2 volumes published, Volume 2 being Felines) supposed to rival the better known "Naturalist's Library" by Jardine.

A collection of Thomas Browne's writing compiled by his friend Thomas Tenison (later the Archhbishop of Canterbury) after Browne's death in 1682. Tenison was entrusted with some of Browne's papers by his wife (Lady Dorothy) and son (Dr Edward Browne), from which he produced Certain Miscellany Tracts, first published 1682. The manuscript for Christian Morals was also in this collection of papers but wasn't published until 1716. According to the ESTC this 1684 is a 'reissue, with cancel title page, of the 1683 edition.' Includes a portrait frontispiece of Sir Thomas Browne by Peter Vandrebanc and an index at the rear, [viii], 215, [9], A4 B-P8, ESTC No. R9918. Second Edition. Bound in full contemporary speckled calf with blind ruled boards and compartments, four raised bands, speckled edges. Octavo. In good condition with scrapes to leather and a small 1cm hole on the front board, corners and edges rubbed, hinges cracked and some loss of leather at the top and tail of the spine, headbands still present but a little worn at the edges, pages generally very clean with occasional very light foxing and some light marks on p. 178, small binder error with leaf B8 folded prior to trimming, slightly oversized, textblock firm.
