Edizione originale e unica di quest'opera che analizza la peste nel suo manifestarsi, descrive i mezzi per contenerne il contagio e i veicoli di infezione, indica i mezzi preservativi atti a prevenire l'infezione sia di carattere comportamentale sia di carattere alimentare. Nello specifico indica come utili a questo fine le carni e le selvaggine, aromi come cinnamomo, cannella, scorze del malangolo, zafferano. i pesci come trota, luccio ecc. ma anche 'casci', pere, mele cotte, amandorle, prugne secche ecc. In merito al bere si raccomanda che siano '.vecchi, chiari, sottili, di sostanza e di sapore austero o piccanti o tondo e maturo.' fra i 'nostrali' son consigliati quelli della collina di Torino, Chieri e Moncalieri, i 'claretti di Castelvecchio, Masino, Astegiana, Monferrato, Fruzzasco.'. Sono poi trattati i composti farmaceutici, palle odorifere, i rottorij, i cauterij, l'ulcere, rimedi esterni come Bolo Armeno, Pietra Bezaar, Smeraldo, Saffiro, Unicorno. Tratta poi i rimedi di poco costo per i poveri ma anche celebri rimedi come lo sciroppo angelico del Massa, l'antidoto di Giacomo Riccio, l'antidoto di Ippocrate ecc. In fine tratta della cura e della manifestazione della malattia. Nella dedicatoria a Carlo Emanuele di Savoia viene indicato che il motivo dell'opera deriva dall'essersi diffuso il morbo negli Stati di S. M. partendo dalla citta' di Ivrea. Il Bucci, figlio di medico carmagnolese, compi' i suoi studi presso l'Universita' di Padova e ottenne a Torino la licenza in medicina nel 1552. In seguito entrera' nell'organico dell'Universita' come titolare dell'insegnamento di Logica tradizionale per poi passare a quella di filosofia naturale, incarico che tenne sino alla pensione nel 1592. In realta' gran parte della sua attivita' si svolse a corte ove rivesti' incarichi di oratore ufficiale e partecipo' a molte legazioni. Di tutto cio' e' testimonianza un'ampia produzione encomiastica ma anche politica a cui sono stati dedicati parecchi studi. Lo stesso Tasso ne fece uno dei protagonisti dei suoi 'Forno primo e Forno secondo' in cui il Bucci incarna il prototipo del '.filosofo cosi' imbevuto di nozioni aristoteliche e platoniche da essere espressamente invitato a parlar Â"da cortigianoÂ" per essere capito.'.
