There is a 1854 print of this title from the same publisher. Not having seen it, I can't comment on what differences there may be between that printing and this, if any. The book is bound in r…ed cloth with gold stamping, including elaborate decorations on the front and the spine. The binding is sound, but the spine is frayed along both sides. The gilded edges are still bright. The paper, which was of high quality, is age-toned but sound, and the text is free of markings. All illustrations are present, as is the tissue guard protecting the frontispiece. There is a small stamp on the front endpaper indicating that at one time this book was in the inventory of Acres of Books in Long Beach, California--a long time ago, as the address is pre-zipcode. Illustrated by John Gilbert (illustratore).
