Empezamos a trabajar en la pr…imera edición hace dos décadas, cuando éramos mucho más jóvenes. Desde entonces, hemos presenciado una explosión de interés, investigación y experiencia clínica que ha impulsado a El hombro a través de cuatro ediciones muy exitosas. Desde la cuarta edición en 2009, el número de artículos, técnicas quirúrgicas y dispositivos relacionados con el hombro ha crecido casi más allá de toda comprensión. Algunos han representado verdaderos avances en el campo, pero otros no han demostrado ser valiosos para el conocimiento con el que practicamos la cirugía de hombro ni para los pacientes a quienes intentamos ayudar a recuperar la comodidad y la función de su hombro. Es hora de preguntar: «¿El costo incrementado de esta nueva herramienta de diagnóstico o implante ha sido justificado por el mejoramiento en los resultados clínicos experimentados por el paciente?» Por ejemplo, ¿la mayor precisión en la medición de la retroversión glenoidea usando complejos programas de reconstrucción tridimensional se ha traducido en una mejoría demostrable en los resultados del paciente? Siguen surgiendo nuevos métodos para obtener imágenes y tratar de reparar los desgarros del manguito rotador, pero ¿estos métodos conducen a tasas más altas de integridad del manguito? Sabemos cómo suturar el labrum de vuelta a la cavidad glenoidea, pero ¿beneficia esto al paciente? ¿Deberíamos estar realizando una transferencia de coracoides para manejar el caso rutinario de inestabilidad glenohumeral traumática recurrente? ¿Qué deberíamos aprender de la aparición histórica y la subsiguiente desaparición de las técnicas de láser y radiofrecuencia o de la infusión intraarticular de anestésicos locales a través de bombas para el dolor? ¿Cuáles pacientes con fracturas humerales proximales tienen más probabilidades de beneficiarse del tratamiento no quirúrgico, la fijación interna, una prótesis humeral o el reemplazo total inverso de hombro? ¿Producen los implantes humerales de rejuvenecimiento, sin tallo o de tallo corto, mejores resultados clínicos que el tipo estándar de componente humeral que ha servido a los pacientes durante medio siglo? Para ayudar a responder estas y muchas otras preguntas que a diario enfrentan los cirujanos de hombro y sus pacientes, hemos reclutado un magnífico grupo de autores de todo el mundo, especialistas que han dedicado sus vidas a buscar mejores formas de atender a sus pacientes. Estos autores nos han proporcionado una perspectiva nueva y actual para ayudar a guiar nuestra práctica. Debido a que hay opiniones diferentes sobre cada tema importante, también hemos pedido a los editores de nuestros capítulos que expresen al final de cada capítulo su propia opinión sobre el tema. Contents mostly good and clea…n, the odd minor foxing/mark, some pages with edge wear as many pages partly detached or detached due to some threads holding pages together at spine broken. Hodson was a local pioneering antiquarian who did much to record Sudbury's past at a time that old houses, paintings and documents were little valued. But died before he could complete a book like this, but C F D Sperling was able to complete this tome fromHodson's huge pile of notes and manuscripts. Which would have been destroyed had it not been for the efforts of C. F. D. Sperling. It was published by subscription and printed in Sudbury in 1896 with the names of the subscribers to rear. There was a later edition published in 1905 using the same format & 1896 title page, but was gilt embossed 1905 at base of spine, This is a genuine 1896 1st edition with 1896 to base of spine. So overall a fair/good First edition in need of rebinding. Size: 27 x 18cm. Approx.
