During the Great War Rowland Feilding wrote the classic War Letters To A Wife, this is the Crimean War equivalent. Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. (MAXWELL, J.C.) "Clerk-Maxwell's Scientific Work", by P.G. Tait. In: Nature, vol 21, no. 536, 5 February 1880. The paper appears in the weekly issue of pp 317-340 on pp 317-321, which makes it on the longish-side for this journal. Maxwell died (at age 48) just a few months earlier (5 November 1879), and this is one of Nature's review of his work, compiled by the redoubtable P.G. Tait. This pamphlet has been cleanly extracted from a larger bound volume, the weekly offered complete. This is a nice, tidy, crisp copy.

This is a government report showing the results of mechanical tests performed on pumping plants in Southern California used to raise water for irrigation. Three types of plants were tested, namely, plants driven by gasoline engines, plants driven by electric motors, and steam-driven plants. The tests were planned and carried out by J. N. Le Conte and C. F. Tait. S. M. Woodward contributed much of the analysis and discussion and checked all of the tables in the report. The report was completed under the direction of Elwood Mead, Chief of Irrigation and Drainage Investigations. The tests and report were jointly overseen by the Irrigation and Drainage Investigations of the Office of Experiment Stations and the State of California.

Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a fascinating exploration of the changing seasons and their profound impact on the human soul. Through a combination of evocative nature writing and insightful commentary, the author delves into the transformative power of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. With a keen eye for detail and a lyrical prose style, the author describes the beauty and wonder of each season, capturing its unique atmosphere and the emotions it evokes. The book also examines the historical and literary associations of the seasons, exploring how poets, artists, and musicians have portrayed their changing moods and rhythms. The author traces the evolution of seasonal themes in literature, from the ancient Greeks to the Romantics, and reveals how our understanding of the seasons has been shaped by cultural and artistic influences. Beyond its descriptive and historical aspects, the book also delves into the philosophical and spiritual significance of the seasons. The author explores how the cyclical nature of time and the transience of life are reflected in the changing seasons. By examining the parallels between the natural world and the human experience, the book encourages readers to contemplate the deeper meanings of existence and to find solace and renewal in the rhythms of nature. Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book compiles the findings of a study conducted in early twentieth-century California to ascertain the mechanical efficiency and running costs of various water-pumping systems in use at the time. The study's primary focus is on gasoline, electric, and steam-powered pumps, and their respective fuel consumption, power usage, and water-lifting capacity were measured across dozens of pumping plants. The author takes care to describe the equipment setup and methodology of each test in detail, allowing readers to verify the results or replicate the study for their own purposes. In presenting this valuable historical data, the author contributes to our understanding of the evolution of water-pumping technology and provides a glimpse into the energy landscape of early 20th-century California, where innovative solutions were sought to meet the challenges of water scarcity and distribution. Wall to Donald J. Kimeldorf. Cover has stamp and writing. Cover has some wear and soiling. Patrick David "Pat" Wall (25 April 1925 - 8 August 2001) was a leading British neuroscientist described as 'the world's leading expert on pain' and best known for the gate control theory of pain. He spent time treating holocaust survivors and refugees in mainland Europe and then moved to the United States. In 1950, he was offered a position as an assistant professor at the University of Chicago, and in this capacity participated in this study. His autograph on a military medical research report is extremely rare. Dr. Tait in 1964 moved to Atlanta and became Professor of Psychiatry at Emory University. The present investigation was concerned with the measurement of the degree of retention of a partially learned maze habit in rats following single total body exposures to varying amounts of X-radiation. During the five-day period immediately following radiation, both time and error scores of rates exposed to 600 r were significantly greater that the control group. This study dealt with the period of what is clinically called "radiation sickness". Conclusions about the alterations in maze performance continuing after the subsidence of acute signs could not be made from this study. It was felt that further study was needed to address the minimum dose of radiation which would be followed by impaired performance.
