There are pieces of red fabric along edges, looks like this was once a box, but they are not attached at the corners. "10" has been written in top left corner of cover. Pages are brittle, there are chips and creases in several pages' corners and along edges. Overall condition is good to fair. Includes title page, introduction (someone has written small red numbers next to corresponding plates), and 33 of 42 plates [missing these nine: 3, 9, 11, 19, 23 25, 29, 31, 36]. Seventh edition. In German. Other than markings on introduction page, pages are unmarked. Extra shipping will be required for international and priority shipping because of the size and weight of this book.

Christian Wilhelm Allers (1857 - 1915) was a German painter and printmaker. Allers, the son of a merchant, was born in Hamburg. He first worked as a lithographer and became well-known when he published his collection of prints "Club Eintracht" in 1888. Several other books and maps (collections of prints) followed, for the sake of example about Bismarck, so at the beginning of the 1890s he was able to build a villa on Capri. He lived there for many years, also spending some time in Hamburg, Karlsruhe, and travelling around the world for more than 10 years, staying some time in New Zealand, Samoa, and Australia. During this time, he often used the pseudonym "W. Andresen", and earned money by making portraits of wealthy people. He died in 1915 in Karlsruhe some months after returning to Germany.
