Randläsuren. - Calé, (1881 - 1904), studierte zunächst Rechtswissenschaft in Berlin und Freiburg/Breisgau, brach aber das Studium ab und widmete sich der Philosophie. Er verfaßte einen mehrbändigen Roman sowie philosophische und philologische Schriften, die er jedoch vernichtete, bevor er sich das Leben nahm. Erhalten blieben Gedichte, Dramen, Tagebuchnotizen sowie Romanfragmente, die den Einfluß der Prosa Gottfried Kellers und E.T.A. Hoffmanns zeigen und lebhaftes Aufsehen erregten, als sie 1907 mit einem Vorwort von Fritz Mauthner unter dem Titel Nachgelassene Schriften erschienen. (DBE).

Walter Calé (1881-1904) war ein deutscher Dichter und Schriftsteller, der vor allem als Frühvollendeter bekannt wurde. Calé wurde in Berlin geboren und studierte dort sowie in Freiburg Philosophie und Literatur. Er litt unter tiefer Melancholie und einer empfundenen Sinnlosigkeit des Daseins, was ihn im Alter von nur 22 Jahren dazu bewegte, sich in Freiburg das Leben zu nehmen. Zu Lebzeiten veröffentlichte er fast nichts. Sein schmales ¼uvre wurde erst postum bekannt, insbesondere durch die Nachgelassenen Schriften (1907), die von Arthur Brückmann herausgegeben und mit einem Vorwort von Fritz Mauthner versehen wurden. Seine Texte umfassen Lyrik, Lieder, philosophische Tagebuchnotizen und Dramenfragmente (wie sein bedeutendstes Werk Franziskus).
